Diagnosing traumatic brain injury with a handheld device

Posted by in categories: chemistry, nanotechnology, neuroscience

The retina and optic nerve share most of the brain’s biochemical properties – this way, they provide a ‘window’ into the biochemistry of the brain.

To address this lack of technological means for the early detection of TBI, Pola Goldberg Oppenheimer, a Professor in Micro-Engineering and Bio-Nanotechnology at the University of Birmingham, UK, has developed a groundbreaking laser-based, eye-safe device (EyeD) technology. This technology can detect molecular changes that reflect brain damage by scanning the back of the eye with a handheld device.

Microsoft, Apple, and NVIDIA will reportedly bail out OpenAI from the shackles of bankruptcy, pushing the ChatGPT maker’s market valuation to over $100 billion

Posted by in category: robotics/AI

Last month, reports emerged indicating that OpenAI is running on fumes and could be on the brink of bankruptcy within 12 months, with projections of $5 billion in losses. Despite the discounted access to Microsoft’s Azure services and approximately $3.5 billion generated in revenue, the ChatGPT maker might need another round of funding to remain afloat.

And now, according to a report by CNBC, OpenAI is in talks to raise funding which could push its market valuation to over $100 billion. The company’s valuation has significantly grown over the past years — from $29 billion in 2023 to $80 billion earlier this year.

Tesla has reportedly chosen its location for the Robotaxi unveiling event on October 10, and it is quite interesting.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, Tesla is planning to show off its new Robotaxi platform, along with “a few other things,” at the Warner Brothers Studio in Burbank, California.

Tesla initially planned to hold its unveiling event on August 8, but it was pushed back to October 10 due to a request for a front-end design change by CEO Elon Musk, who also hinted there would be more to show at the event with the delayed date.

Study Links Gene Variations to Brain Changes in Essential Tremor

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, genetics, neuroscience

Summary: Researchers identified how gene variations lead to brain changes associated with essential tremor, a common movement disorder affecting over 60 million people worldwide. The study used brain MRI scans and genetic data from over 33,000 adults to uncover genetic links to structural changes in the brain’s cortex and cerebellum.

These findings could lead to new drug targets by revealing how faulty protein disposal systems disrupt neural pathways, resulting in uncontrollable hand tremors. The research marks a significant step toward understanding and treating essential tremor more effectively.

Scientists Detect Invisible Electric Field Around Earth For First Time

Posted by in category: energy

An invisible, weak energy field wrapped around our planet Earth has finally been detected and measured.

It’s called the ambipolar field, an electric field first hypothesized more than 60 years ago, and its discovery will change the way we study and understand the behavior and evolution of our beautiful, ever-changing world.
