Russia’s diversified design bureau for marine engineering, Rubin, unveiled a project for a modified version of a submarine that the company is working on.

MOSCOW, ($1=76.79 Russian Rubles) — Russia’s diversified design bureau for marine engineering, Rubin, has unveiled a project for a modified version of the Guardian submarine that the company is working on. Rubin is the greatest designer of Soviet and Russian submarines – 85% of them are the work of the company.

According to preliminary data, the submarine is designed to reach a maximum speed of 21 knots. If it travels at 10 knots, it can travel a maximum of 4,000 miles. Ruby achieves this speed by integrating a more powerful power plant, as well as reducing the resistance to movement in the surface position.

The Near Future of Military Autonomy Isn’t Robotanks, But ‘Microservices’

Robot tanks and drones swarming the battlefield represent only a small fraction of the ways the military might put autonomy to use in the years ahead.

Instead of commanding killer robots, most troops will get helping hands from things like driving assistance software.

Black Hawk flies unmanned at Fort Campbell, using new ALIAS technology

Posted by in categories: military, robotics/AI

FORT CAMPBELL, KY (AP) — A helicopter flew unmanned around Fort Campbell recently in what is the Army’s first automated flight of an empty Black Hawk, officials said.

The 14,000-pound UH-60A Black Hawk successfully navigated around the post as if it were downtown Manhattan, engineers told reporters Tuesday.

The DARPA Aircrew Labor In-Cockpit Automation System (ALIAS) program took the helicopter on 30-minute flight on Feb. 5. It was the first time the system known as ALIAS flew completely by itself. The system is being tested with 14 military aircraft.

North Korea Claims Successfully Testing a New Hypersonic Gliding Warhead

Posted by in categories: energy, existential risks, military

These missiles are too fast to detect. Hypersonic weapons technology is at the heart of a new arms race. Currently, the US, China, and Russia are all competing to develop the most effective long-range hypersonic missiles. A recent report revealed that North Korea has also successfully tested a hypersonic missile on January 5, 2022, the country’s second reported test of a hypersonic missile.

North Korea has also referred to verifying the “fuel ampoule system” during this deployment which means that the liquid fuel used by the missile was sealed at production. This allows for rapid deployment even after the missile has been stored for long periods of time, while also reducing its vulnerability to pre-emptive strikes.

We have now seen what North Korea can do in quite imaginative ways.

A Bunch of F-35s Are Just Sitting Around Without Their Engines

Posted by in category: military

You kinda need those.

The U.S. Air Force is down dozens of flyable F-35s due to a maintenance and spare parts crunch. An official in charge of the F-35 program says nearly one in seven of the Air Force’s F-35s can’t fly at all, with some planes awaiting engines that need to be refurbished sooner than anticipated.

Air Force Lt. Gen Eric Fick, the head of the F-35 program office, says 46 F-35s worldwide are in “Mission Impaired Capability Awaiting Parts” (MICAP) status, meaning they’re unable to fly missions until fixed. The breakdown, according to Military.com, includes 41 U.S. Air Force F-35As, one Navy F-35C, and one Marine Corps F-35. Three more aircraft belonging to international F-35 customers are MICAP.
