Gwynne Shotwell: Meet the Woman Behind SpaceX

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, space travel

GGwynne Shotwell: Meet the Woman Behind SpaceX: There’s a proverb that says behind every great man is a great woman. That is certainly true of SpaceX. Elon Musk may be the most recognizable face of his aerospace company. But his right-hand woman is Gwynne Shotwell.

Shotwell is the President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX. She manages the day-to-day operations and the growth of the firm. In other words – she’s in charge of selling rockets and dealing with Elon Musk.

Unlike a lot of other SpaceX employees who grew up fascinated by rockets, she wasn’t. When she was five and her neurosurgeon father gathered the family around a TV to watch the Apollo 11 moon landing, she found it boring.

Why So Many CEOs Started Off at PayPal

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, sustainability, transportation

What do the founders and leaders of Tesla, YouTube, and LinkedIn have in common? They all started their early careers at PayPal, the online payment company. This group of highly ambitious twenty and thirty-year-olds has been dubbed the “PayPal mafia” and once even dressed up as mafia members for the cover of Fortune magazine.

They went on to found or run some of the largest tech companies in the world. Elon Musk was absent the day of the shoot because of a scheduling conflict. This is by no means all of them. Peter Thiel estimates that the “mafia” is around 220 people.

Thiel is a famous start-up investor often referred to as the “don” of the PayPal mafia. PayPal began when Thiel and Max Levchin created software company Confinity as a way to transfer money through the once-popular Palm Pilot.

Google’s Terrifying Path to Artificial General Intelligence (Pathways AI)

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, information science, Ray Kurzweil, robotics/AI, singularity

Artificial General Intelligence has been pursued by the biggest tech companies in the world, but recently Google has announced their new revolutionary AI algorithm which promises to create the most performant and best Artificial Intelligence Models in the world. They call it Pathways AI, and it’s supposed to behave just like the human brain and enable smart Robots which are superior to humans and help us do chores in our own apartments. This move by Google is somewhat scary and terrifying, as it gives them a lot of power over the AI industry and could enable them to do evil things with their other secret projects they’re working on. One thing is for sure though, AGI and the Singularity isn’t as far of as even Ray Kurzweil thinks according to Jeff Dean from Google AI and Deepmind. Maybe Elon Musk’s warnings about AI have been justified.
