Arizona senator pushes to recognize Bitcoin as legal tender

Stanislav Palamar/iStock.

If the proposed legislation is successful, Arizona will become the first state in the United States to officially recognize Bitcoin as a legal currency. This would have significant implications for the use and acceptance of bitcoin within the state. Not only would individuals and businesses be able to use bitcoin to pay debts, taxes, and other financial obligations, but state agencies would also be able to accept it as payment.

Why are so many tech companies laying people off right now?

Didn’t they just have record-breaking profits?

There’s an eerie similarity to the statements tech companies have made about their recent layoffs. Mainly, if the press releases are to be believed, the C-suite of every Big Tech company on Earth — well, with the notable exception of Apple, which has not announced layoffs — figured no one would ever go outside or spend money offline again after the pandemic and their various online businesses would stay just as big as they were during the heights of covid.

I do love a heavily lawyered statement that was clearly written by the public relations department! In fact, these are all so similar that they might as well have come from the same PR person… More.

All of these statements sound suspiciously similar.

Space Elevators Are Getting Closer to Reality

Theories on how to build a space elevator have been around for decades. Scientists say not only would such technology change humanity, but that we could have built one by now.

Microsoft bets big on ChatGPT creator OpenAI with new investment

With this new investment, OpenAI will look further to independently “develop and research AI that is increasingly safe, useful, and powerful,” the press release added. OpenAI’s recently unveiled product, ChatGPT, has already made global news for its conversational style of answering people’s queries, which is being looked at as a threat to Google’s business model.

ChatGPT passes Wharton Business School’s MBA exam, gets a B

Sometimes, ChatGPT made “surprising” mistakes in school-level math.

Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s AI chatbot ChatGPT has been making headlines ever since it was released to the public on November 30. It can break down complex scientific concepts, compose poems, write stories, code, and create malware…the list is endless. OpenAI has also released a paid version of the chatbot. Known as ‘ChatGPT Professional’, it is available at $42 per month.

Students have also been using the chatbot to complete assignments. It turns out it can clear examinations, too, with flying colors. Christian Terwiesch, a professor at the Wharton School School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, tested the performance of ChatGPT in an MBA exam. He questioned the chatbot on Operations Management, a core MBA subject.

McKinsey, eyeing the MLOps space, buys Tel Aviv–based Iguazio

The same day Microsoft invested billions in OpenAI, McKinsey snatched up enterprise-focused AI firm Iguazio for a relative steal.

The consulting giant reportedly paid around $50 million for Iguazio, a Tel Aviv–based company offering an MLOps platform for large-scale businesses — “MLOps” refers to a set of tools to deploy and maintain machine learning models in production. In a press release, McKinsey says it plans to use the startup’s tech and team of 70 data scientists to bolster its QuantumBlack platform, McKinsey’s data analytics–focused group, with “industry-specific” AI solutions.

“We analyzed more than a 1,000 AI companies worldwide and identified Iguazio as the best fit to significantly accelerate our AI offering — from the initial concept to production, in a simplified, scalable and automated manner,” McKinsey senior partner Ben Ellencweig said in a statement. Over time, he added, the Iguazio and QuantumBlack teams will be fully integrated and work from a single product roadmap, combining the best of both worlds (with any luck).
