REDWOOD CITY, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Researchers at REMspace, a California-based startup, have achieved a historic milestone, demonstrating that lucid dreams could unlock new dimensions of communication and humanity’s potential. Using specially designed equipment, two individuals successfully induced lucid dreams and exchanged a simple message.

Lucid dreams occur when a person is aware they are dreaming while still in the dream state. This phenomenon happens during REM sleep and has numerous potential applications, from solving physiological problems to learning new skills. In earlier research, REMspace demonstrated that facial electromyography sensors could decode specific sounds made in dreams. This led to the development of Remmyo, a dream language detectable through sensitive sensors.

OpenAI is far from its days of being an altruistic, non-profit company.
It is now the face of a booming AI industry and is effectively for-profit in all but name, steaming ahead with little regard for its technology’s environmental toll, or for the potentially existential risks it poses to society.

The US Department of Justice (DoJ) has submitted a new “Proposed Remedy Framework” to correct Google’s violation of antitrust antitrust laws in the country (h/t Mishaal Rahman). This framework seeks to remedy the harm caused by Google’s search distribution and revenue sharing, generation and display for search results, advertising scale and monetization, and accumulation and use of data.
The most drastic of the proposed solutions includes preventing Google from using its products, such as Chrome, Play, and Android, to advantage Google Search and related products. Other solutions include allowing websites to opt-out of training or appearing in Google-owned AI products, such as in AI Overviews in Google Search.
Google responded to this by asserting that “DOJ’s radical and sweeping proposals risk hurting consumers, businesses, and developers.” While the company intends to respond in detail to DoJ’s final proposals, it says that the DoJ is “already signaling requests that go far beyond the specific legal issues in this case.”

Organizations are losing between $94 — $186 billion annually to vulnerable or insecure APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and automated abuse by bots. That’s according to The Economic Impact of API and Bot Attacks report from Imperva, a Thales company. The report highlights that these security threats account for up to 11.8% of global cyber events and losses, emphasizing the escalating risks they pose to businesses worldwide.
Drawing on a comprehensive study conducted by the Marsh McLennan Cyber Risk Intelligence Center, the report analyzes over 161,000 unique cybersecurity incidents. The findings demonstrate a concerning trend: the threats posed by vulnerable or insecure APIs and automated abuse by bots are increasingly interconnected and prevalent. Imperva warns that failing to address security risks associated with these threats could lead to substantial financial and reputational damage.
